Bio: Miranda grew up in York, Pennsylvania, but could not be happier to be living in the City of Brotherly Love! She enjoys traveling and exploring the city, seeing live music, watching horror movies, and baking . In addition to being a Peer Advisor at CLA, Miranda is a Peer Educator at the Wellness Resource Center on campus and is the Co-Founder and President of the student organization, S.A.F.E., which aims to raise awareness of sexual violence on campus and in the community. After graduation, she plans on attending graduate school in Philadelphia for Counseling Psychology and go on to work with victims of crime and trauma.

Name: Emma DeBald

Bio: Emma grew up in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania but is happy to call Philadelphia her new home. In her free time, Emma enjoys exploring every corner of Philadelphia and finding new places to drink coffee and chat with friends. She also enjoys going to concerts, traveling, meditating, attending Temple football games, and visiting museums. Aside from being a Peer Advisor, Emma also works with the Crossroads Study at Temple University. She is currently majoring in Spanish as well as Psychology and hopes to acquire her PhD in the future after she has time to travel through South America to volunteer and broaden her understanding of the Spanish culture.

Name: Anh Do

Bio: Anh grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and could not be happier to have finally moved to Philadelphia. She enjoys the city life and immersing herself in the urban culture. In addition to being a Peer Advisor at CLA, Anh is also a part of the Psychology Majors Association and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Outside of the academic world, you will most likely catch her painting in her free time, playing pool at the game room in the Student Center or playing badminton in McGonigle Hall. After graduation, she plans on attending graduate school in Philadelphia for either Counseling Psychology with an academic track or a Master’s program in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Name: Alyssa Huat

Bio: Alyssa was born in Roxborough, Pennsylvania and has since moved to Bucks County. She enjoys returning to Philadelphia for her college education, fully immersing herself in the city (and student) life. If she is not in the advising office, she usually is sitting inside the Student Center with food from any of the trucks or the Anderson strip, at the rockwall in Pearson, or going through some homework. In her free time, she likes to relax with Bikram yoga and a cup of tea, as well as some games on her apartment’s PS2, scrolling through Tumblr, and her golden mini-labradoodle, Bubba. She also hopes to travel to a few different places in the world before going to graduate school, as she aspires to work in organizational leadership in the future.

Name: Rachel Ginsberg

Bio: Rachel grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, but is glad to be spending some time getting to know Philadelphia! In addition to working as a Peer Advisor, Rachel is currently working as a Program Assistant at the University of the Sciences. Outside of working and attending classes, Rachel enjoys exploring the city and trying new restaurants. She is currently majoring in Psychology and hopes to find a job internationally following graduation.

Bio: Taylor was born in the Southeastern Tidewater region of Virginia and moved to Hanover, Pennsylvania at the age of 8. The allure of the big city drew him to Philadelphia, which he has now made his home while he completes his degree. Taylor plans to use his degree in Environmental Studies to become an officer in the Coast Guard. Outside of school and work Taylor enjoys going to the gym, playing video games, and spending vast amounts of time on Khan Academy.

Bio: Merideth grew up in Hanover, Pennsylvania but has always loved Philadelphia. In addition to being a Peer Advisor at CLA, she is the Social Media Intern for the Office of Alumni Relations, Director of Academic Affairs Temple Student Government and Vice President of Academic Affairs for Delta Phi Epsilon. After graduation, Merideth plans on attending law school to study health care law.

Name: Julia Kirkland

Bio: Julia grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and had a deep love for the city ingrained in her at a young age. She loves being at Temple and getting to be fully enveloped in the diversity of the school and her favorite city. When she isn’t in the advising office, Julia enjoys writing, making jewelry and metalworking, working with children, and working as an aide to disabled children and young adults in a variety of venues. When she’s not studying at the Tech or in class she loves sitting on Anderson’s roof or in Founders Garden with a good book, or traversing the city on an adventure. Post-grad is still something of a mystery for her, but she hopes to make a difference in the lack of intersectionality in mental health treatment and the cultural reception of mental health disorders.

As a Philadelphia native, Lauren enjoys exploring various neighborhoods throughout the city. She loves to take advantage of Philadelphia’s cultural diversity by attending festivals, indulging in local and exotic food, and supporting art events. In addition to being a CLA Peer Advisor, Lauren has interned at the Social Enrichment Center, and she will work as a research assistant in Temple’s Developmental Science Lab during her senior year.  Upon graduation, she plans on pursuing a degree in Counseling, and working with individuals who suffer from social anxiety disorders.

Name: Aiyana Mobley

Aiyana grew up in Philadelphia and North Carolina and loves going to school in her native city. She attended Central High School here in Philadelphia (like academic advisors Dina and Chris) and is a proud member of 272! Aiyana has also been recently inducted into the National Society for Collegiate Scholars. When she is not in the advising office, she can be found in the Tech Center curled up in a comfortable chair reading or studying for classes. In her free time, Aiyana enjoys going to the movies (especially for horror films), concerts, football games,and visiting The University of Pennsylvania Museum for Archaeology and Anthropology. After graduating from Temple, she hopes to continue on to a graduate school program for psychology or anthropology and travel to see as much of the world as possible.

Bio: Christopher graduated from high school in Chester County, PA but he moved around quite a bit growing up. In addition to working as a Peer Advisor, he is an active student leader in the Temple Honors Program, a Peer Health Educator at the Wellness Resource Center, and a tireless advocate for underrepresented/minority students in Temple’s community. He loves Philadelphia for all its wonderful options to grab something to eat and its very distinct neighborhoods. A recent summer research experience at Harvard has helped Christopher decide that he eventually wants to go on to graduate school for Sociology, Media Studies, and/or STS (Science, Technology, and Society) Studies. In his spare time, he can usually be found cooking, baking, or finding weird things to read on the Internet.

Bio: Marissa grew up in Broomall, PA, right outside of Philadelphia. She initially attended the University of Pittsburgh, but could not stay away from the city she considers home. Marissa is a psychology student, and plans to get her masters with hopes of becoming an academic advisor. Marissa is enjoying living in the city, exploring everything it has to offer. She would eventually like to live abroad, particularly in Europe. When Marissa is not in the office, she can be found hanging out with her kitten Ellie and binge watching really bad reality television.

Name: Sarah Williams

Bio: Sarah grew up in the small town of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania but always knew she wanted to go to college in a big city like Philadelphia (even though it doesn’t have Sheetz.) In addition to working as a Peer Advisor for the College of Liberal Arts, Sarah is involved in Temple’s Honors Admissions and Transitions Team along with various feminist and LGBT activities around Philly. When she’s not in the library doing mountains of calculus homework, Sarah is usually biking around the city, at a concert or restaurant with her friends, or at home re-watching The Office on Netflix. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school in Philadelphia or New York City and work to become an OBGYN.

Bio: Megan grew up in a suburb bordering Philadelphia but has always loved everything about the city! She commutes daily to Temple by way of the train and the Broad Street Line. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, volunteering, going into the city with friends, and much more. In addition to being a CLA Peer Advisor, Megan has participated in the 2014 Mayor’s Internship Program, has volunteered for Project HOME, and has interned as a Policy Analyst with the City of Philadelphia. With a major in Political Science and a minor in History, she plans to pursue a Masters of Public Policy after graduating from Temple and get more involved with her passions for housing policy, ending homelessness, and reducing poverty.
