Painting | Creative Writing at Temple University

The Temple Graduate Creative Writing Program awards a two-year Master's of Fine Arts degree in English–Creative Writing, with a focus in either fiction or poetry. The program encourages writers to find their own voices, their own approaches to contemporary literature and language. Through workshops each semester and private manuscript tutorials with our resident faculty in the second year, it helps students gain technique and self-confidence, as they move into the highly competitive world of submissions to journals and book publishers. Special topics and craft classes in creative writing, as well as graduate seminars in literature, are also part of the curriculum.

Workshops are supplemented by individual consultations with visiting writers-in-residence and a series of readings by prominent writers. For more information, please look at our Poets and Writers Series events page.

Students also have the opportunity to work on our online literary journal, TINGE Magazine, which is graduate student–edited.

Temple University offers reduced tuition for Pennsylvania residents. Our application deadline is December 15.
