While trained as a labor economist, Mike is best known for
his teaching and research in sports economics. His work has
appeared in such journals as the Social Science Quarterly,
Economic Inquiry, and the Journal of Sports Economics. Along
with Peter von Allmen (a Temple Ph.D.), he is coauthor of
The Economics of Sports and a principles of economics
textbook. His recent research includes work on how bonus
payments to college football coaches affect the academic
progress of their players and the determinants of charitable
activity by married couples. Mike has served as Director of the Honors Program in the Fox School of Business and as Assistant Dean at Temple University's Japan Campus. Starting in January, 2011, he will be the Economics Department's Director of Graduate Studies.
