   Every year the Temple Russian program sponsors events for the larger Temple community and the Delaware Valley Olympiada, a regional competition for students of Russian at the high school level. 


2014 Delaware Valley Russian Olympiada Winners


The 2014 Delaware Valley regional winner among heritage speakers is Anna Ternova, Vineland High School (teacher - Vlada Jackson). The winner among regular learners is Allison Stroyan, Abington Heights High School (teacher - Amy Wojcik). Allison is also nominated for the US Olympiada team to compete in the International Olympiada in Moscow (Russia).


The 8th Annual Delaware Valley High-School Olympiada of Spoken Russian was held on the Temple University Main Campus on March 18, 2014. TU professor and Chair of the Delaware Russian Olympiada Olia Prokopenko and Chair of French, German, Italian & Slavic Lou Mangione gave a warm welcome to more than 100 high school students from Pennsylvania and New Jersey schools who participated in the competition sponsored by the Temple University Russian Program and the Department of FGIS. The high school students competed in three or four commissions: conversation, civilization, reading and poetry recital.

  • 2013 Delaware Valley winner in the Regular Learners Category is Katherine Maximov (Wyoming Preparatory Seminary; teacher: Konstantin Lyavdansky)
  • 2013 Delaware Valley winner in the Heritage Speakers Category is Liliya Bondarenko (Vineland High School ; teacher: Vlada Jackson).
  • Special mention: Anvar Ibragimov (Cherokee High School; teacher: Marion Barnum)

2012 Spring Fling at Temple University

Russian Program and Russian Club were among the most enthusiastic participants of the 2012 Spring Fling. We recruited for our Clubs and Programs and advertised our Study Abroad Program!


2012 Russian Olympiada

Olympiada of Spoken Russian that took place on the Temple University Main Campus on March 20th determined overall winners among the Olympiada’s 110 participants from 4 high schools of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
John (Jake) Fitzpatrick (Abington Heights High School, teacher - Amy Wojcik) won in the Regular category of regular learners; Pavel Predit (Vineland High School, teacher - Vlada Jackson) became a winner in the category of heritage and native speakers.

Cherokee High School was one of the best represented and successful teams at the 6th Delaware Valley Olympiada.
