Geography and Urban Studies PhD student Ritwika Biswas has received two travel awards from the American Association of Geographers’. She was awarded the Asian Geography Specialty Group’s South Asia Student Travel Award 2017 as well as a Urban Geography Specialty Group travel award. These awards recognize her dedication to research on South Asia and engagement in the AAG professional association.
Ritwika’s work explores how gender intersects with other forms of inequality (class, caste, religion, sexuality, age, marital status) to shape women’s and men’s experiences of accessibility in urban public spaces in Kolkata. In addition to presenting a paper in Boston, Ritwika will also be a panelist in a session on “Research Ethics in Human Geography: International Perspectives” (with Regina Scheyvens, inter alia) and serve as discussant on another panel.
