David M. Ratzan, Assistant Professor (Teaching/Instructional), has a Ph.D. in Classical Studies from Columbia University. His research interests are in the social history of the ancient world, with a current emphasis on the documents and manuscripts which survive from Egypt. In addition to various scholarly editions and articles, he has co-edited Growing up Fatherless in Antiquity (CUP, 2009; with Sabine Hübner) and Transaction Costs in Ancient History (with Uri Yiftach-Firanko and Dennis Kehoe), a volume now under consideration by the University of Michigan Press, to which he contributed a chapter on the law and economics of contract in Roman Egypt.
