Academic Affairs
The Academic Affairs Division is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for all undergraduate and graduate educational, curricular, and student affairs matters and is responsible for ensuring the quality of all students’ academic experience. The various units housed in Academic Affairs interact with the College’s department chairs, program directors, staff, students, and other entities across the University to advance undergraduate and graduate education and to ensure that departmental, collegial, and university academic policies and procedures are followed.
Office of Undergraduate Affairs
Undergraduate Affairs works with faculty to assist in the development of new curricula, courses, and academic policies for the College. We also are responsible for coordinating large-scale processes like departmental assessment projects, curriculum planning, and the Student Feedback Forms. We edit the major academic publications for undergraduates, including the Course Description guide, the Undergraduate Bulletin, and the DARS documents. We manage the Schedule of Classes for all undergraduate and graduate programs in CLA, which involves a process of planning with department chairs and faculty advisors to meet the needs of majors. We correct and adjust data in the student system, schedule space, and refine the schedule as needed for all 4 semesters and on 4 Philadelphia area campuses.
Office of Graduate Affairs
The Graduate Affairs Office acts as the liaison between the Graduate School and the departments within the College of Liberal Arts that offer doctoral and master’s degrees. Our office provides support to students from the time they inquire about a degree program through graduation. Our primary responsibilities are the following: processing of admission applications; generating and administering assistantship contracts and tuition remission; implementing the University’s policies and procedures; offering financial awards for travel and research; conferring of graduate degrees; and coordinating of graduation. Our primary commitment is to provide excellent service to our students with advice, information, and/or assistance.
Academic Advising Center
The Academic Advising Center promotes a student-centered approach that fosters student responsibility and engagement. Through advisement in both individual and group settings, liberal arts students receive guidance that will allow them to achieve their academic goals by developing meaningful educational plans. The advising center staff helps students plan curriculum, choose majors, explore career options, study abroad and take advantage of a wide array of opportunities. Our team of dedicated professional advisors is available to answer questions regarding University, College, and major requirements.
Center for Internships and Career Development
The Center for Internships and Career Development promotes experiential and career development programs on behalf of students, faculty, and departments. Our programming includes: 1) internships, 2) community-based learning and volunteering, and 3) career development/exploration tools and career advising. These opportunities are designed to enhance students’ academic course of study, to help cultivate a broad range of skills associated with their major academic disciplines, and to prepare them for a variety of opportunities in the professional world.
Office of Web Communications
The Office of Web Communications works to help the College of Liberal Arts communicate strategic messages via the web. Web Communications oversees the development and management of our online properties, which includes web sites for the College of Liberal Arts and affiliated departments, research centers and institutes, as well as our presence(s) on social networking services. Web Communications also serves as a liaison between University-level marketing and communication efforts and our affiliated organizations.
