The Department of Spanish and Portuguese congratulates all the Spanish majors who received Diamond Awards this year. Diamond Awards celebrate those who demonstrate excellence in leadership, academic performance, and service to Temple and dedication to the community.

The winners are:

Thomas DiAgostino, BA, Women’s Studies and Spanish

DiAgostino received a Presidential Volunteer Service Award for his work combating urban poverty and the educational achievement gap for preschoolers in low-income communities.

Tyler Horst, BA, Media Studies and Production and Spanish

Horst made films for Temple’s study-abroad program in South Africa before co-producing We All Live Here, a documentary on Temple’s role in North Philadelphia.

Madeline E. Luebbert, BA, English and Spanish

Luebbert volunteered in North Philadelphia to increase literacy before participating in Temple’s Service Immersion Program in El Paso, Texas.

Katey Steinberg, BS, Biology and Spanish

Steinberg volunteered for a medical service project in Peru and co-founded Hootathon, Temple’s dance marathon to benefit Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Alisha Zafar, BA, Media Studies and Production and Spanish

Zafar is director of public relations for the Honors Activity Board and volunteered as a counselor at Camp Discovery, a summer program for children living with skin disease.
